I find it impressive that Toshiba has packed its V30T series Personal media Player with everything but the kitchen sink. Set for a June Release, V30T supports a stout 7-9 hours of video and 25 hours of audio playback. The list of supported codecs includes WMV/WMA/MP3/WAV/JPEG and PlaysForSure WMA formats but no XVID, Divx, or OGG support. Hoperfully they are attended to in firmware upgrades. Now the screen size is mere 3.5 inches compared to Archos AV700 which sports a 7 inch screen. All these features are brought at a price point of 450 dollars U.S. The no release date for has been announced outside of Japan, but I am sure there are some grey market dealers that are taking pre-orders.

I have been in the market for a new pda for a long time since the battery on my Sony Clie Peg TJ37started holding less of a charge. Now I thought to myself, I could replace the battery or replace the unit. After searching Ebay the many auctioneers were looking for a price $100 dollars for the Clie. I couldn’t justify paying that much money for a discontinued model. And Sony made gettting the battery out a mission impossible. I decided to get a new one I needed something that had the ability to handle video, audio, and wifi. It seems many companies have phased out their pda lines. Sony has discontinued their clie line. And Palm has been slow to produce a new pda this spring. It seems the new focus of PDA makers are the smartphones. The number smartphones available is large and growing. The drawback is you are tethered to the service provider of the phone itself. The functions that were freely available on the PDa come at cost on the smartphone in order for the Providers to turn a profit. Now there is new category of mobile pc which cleverly titled Ultra Mobile PC or UMPC for short. Now with these new contenders to the PDA throne much investigation will have to be done in order to see which will be the next step.
